Maharashtra State Electricity Board (or MSEB) is a state-owned electricity regulation board operating within the state of Maharashtra in India. The MSEB was formed on June 20, 1960 under Section 5 of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. As of 1998, it was the second largest electricity generating utility in India after National Thermal Power Corporation.

How To apply for new connection

step1:
Fill up form A1 (To download the form go to http://www.mahadiscom.in/consumer/app_form.shtm and submit it to the sub-division office of your area.
step2:
Documents
Following documents are required to be submitted with the form:

•House tax receipt or commercial certificate (in case of new house).
•House tax receipt (in case of old house).
•Copy of plan (in case of bungalow)
•Electricity bill of your neighbour.
•If applicant is not the owner of the house- Copy of lease-deed and latest receipt of house rent.
•Caste Certificate (in case of SC/ST) to apply for discount in Service line charges (SLC) and Service connection charges (SCC).

Step3:
Once the application is submitted to the sub-division office, it will be followed by site visit by the Area Engineer to verify details.
After the site visit, you will be issued a ‘Firm Quotation’ form by the sub-division office. The certificate gives the break-up of amount to be paid like SLC, SCC, security deposit and meter charges.
Pay the amount at the Division office.
Submit a wiring test report obtained from Government recognised electrical contractors with receipts of amount paid with the ‘Firm Quotation’ form to the sub-division office.
The same will be followed by another visit by the Area Engineer to test wiring and to install the meter. For more information

Introduction
Erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board was looking after Generation, Transmission & Distribution of Electricity in the State of Maharashtra barring Mumbai. But with enactment of Electricity Act 2003, MSEB was unbundled in to 3 Companies viz. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd., Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd. and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. on 6 th June 2005.
Consumer Base :
MSEDCL supplies electricity to a staggering 1.86 crore consumers across the categories all over Maharashtra excluding the island city of Mumbai. There are about 1.31 crore residential, 30 lakh agricultural, 13.46 lakh commercial and 2.5 lakh industrial consumers in MSEDCL area which fetch an annual revenue of about Rs. 33,000 crore
Sources of power :
MSEDCL’s sources of power include thermal, hydro, gas and non conventional sources like solar, wind, bagasse etc. apart from hydro power of Koyna. Thermal power constitutes the major share which it gets from Mahagenco projects, Central Sector projects and RGPPL.
Infrastructure :
In terms of infrastructure, MSEDCL operates a vast far flung network comprising of 33 KV, 22 KV & 11 KV lines, sub-stations and distribution transformers spread over 3.08 sq.kms geographical area of Maharashtra covering 41015 villages and 457 towns. It has 1947 sub-stations (33 KV) with 49000 MVA of transformation capacity, 10334 HV feeders, and several thousand circuit kms of HT and LT lines.
